Relationships

Heartilly, Rinoa. Squall's primary love interest. She is the daughter of General Caraway, a Galbadia military commander, and Julia Heartilly, former singer/pianist. As the proud leader of the Forest Owls, a resistance faction on Timber's liberation front, she is exactly who they say she is: a free-spirited, ambitious young lady set out to make a difference in the world The relationship between her and Squall is the talk of much controversy, yet at the same time, a heart-felt familiarity amongst its fans. For more information, see here.

Trepe, Quistis. Originally Squall’s instructor, she calls him a role model student (something along those lines) due to Squall's well-known dedication and determination. She's the first member of your party that you encounter while in the inframy. Quistis manages to save Squall from X-ATM092 during the escape from the Dollet Mission. After the inauguration, she attempted to open up to Squall, but Squall repays her by refusing to listen to her problems, and telling her to "...go talk to a wall". What she called her feelings toward Squall a "misunderstood love", Quistis first believed that she was in love with him. However, when the events of their childhood was brought about in a discussion with Irvine, she learns that she only envied the sisterly role Ellone played to Squall back at the orphanage.

Dincht, Zell. He, along with Selphie, accompanied Squall on the Dollet Mission. Together, they graduated and became SeeDs. Although he may annoy Squall to some extent sometimes, Zell proves to be a loyal friend and knowledgable is many areas. Zell may be the source of problems for himself at times, but in truth, he does not cause problems for others. He also lived in the orphanage with Edea Kramer, Squall, and the others during his childhood, until he was adopted by his mother. He now resides in the town of Balamb.

Tilmitt, Selphie. Selphie is a spunky girl who transfered to Balamb Garden from Trabia Garden, another military school, around the start of the game. Squall first meets Selphie as the girl who you show around at the beginning of the game, and you later meet her when she gets lost during the Dollet mission. She's in charge of a committee dedicated to organizing events and celebrations that occur between training sessions at the Garden. During the conversation about the orphanage, it's revealed that she too was one of the kids at the orphanage with Squall. She also sets up a blog for herself, in which you can read, where she talks about her friends and experiences.

Kinneas, Irvine. Unlike the rest of your party, he is not a SeeD, but an excellent, and possibly the best, marksman around. He trained in Galbadia garden as a sharpshooter, and did not have to deal with Guardian Forces and the junction system. Because of this, memories from his childhood are still in tact; he's the only one who clearly recalls him, Squall, Selphie, Quistis, Zell, and Seifer living in Edea's orphanage together. Under orders from the headmaster, Irvine joins Squall and the group in an effort to assasinate Edea during the parade in Galbadia. The attempt was futile since Irvine does not deal well under pressure, but even so, Squall still appreciates Irvine for simply trying. Both he and Irvine seem to share some similarities; they carry a facade that conceals their true identity or motive.

Almasy, Seifer. Seifer is Squall's rival, whom he doesn't necessarily despise, but doesn't exactly get along with either; the two have always quarrled since long before they could even remember. Seifer is in charge of Balamb Garden's "disciplinary committee", whom Squall sees as a rather ruthless than helpful. It's rather ironic that Squall seems to be more disciplined than the brash Seifer who tends to dive head first into danger without thinking about the consequences. These two personalities tend to clash often, somewhat like polar opposites; an obvious symbol and representation of this are the distinctive scars they have running in opposite directions.

Kramer, Edea. A beautiful sorceress who inherited her powers at a young age. She’s your enemy for the first part of the game, and the person who seems to be behind all the chaos that Galbadia has been causing. Later, she becomes an ally. She's known as the beloved "Matron" when she was still running the orphanage. Like everyone at the orphanage, Edea was another dear person to Squall, even if he doesn’t remember her too well. She’s definitely a motherly figure to Squall and everyone else (excluding Rinoa). She was the one who came up with the idea of SeeDs and the Garden, which was eventually pulled off by her husband, Cid, along with a Shumi.

Kramer, Cid. Headmaster of Balamb Garden. This is the Cid for FF8. In the beginning you’re probably wondering “who is this dude?” You learn later on that he’s the wife of Edea Krammer, who’s supposed to be her knight. After the students of Balamb rebel against Cid, he promotes Squall and leaves charge of Balmb Garden to him. Not much to say about relations between him and Squall.

Zabac, Ward. A friend of Laguna. Well, Squall learns of him first through Laguna’s dreams. When he does meet him, they don’t really communicate because Ward has lost his voice.

Seagill, Kiros. Another friend of Laguna. He dresses really funky too. Also encountred in Laguna's dreams. You do get to finally meet him later on, but Squall doesn’t talk to him much either.

Fujin. A follower of Seifer. She and Rajin stick around him in the beginning, but when they find out Seifer has gone completely nuts, they decide to leave him. You get to battle her in Balamb, after going to Fisherman’s Horizon. Squall doesn’t have much against her, and even maybe respects her. I think it’s really strange to read her dialogs in ALL CAPS. LIKE THIS. OKAY. HAD ENOUGH YET?

Rajin. He’s not very friendly, but he is compared to Fujin and Seifer. Most of the time, he sticks by whatever Fujin does. And Fujin does whatever Seifer does. And Seifer does whatever he feels like doing. It’s the whole “follow the leader” thing, ne? Not to much on this guy and Squall.
